Anzac Day - April 25

Apr 25, 2010 08:20

Australia’s holiest of days. The day that we gather to honour and remember our brave men who died on the shores of Gallipoli 95 years ago today.

“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them

Lest we forget”

I enjoyed both songs, Lyn.

The biscuits look delicious. Wonderful that the recipe has carried on.

The biscuits look delicious
and they are easy to make which is a bonus

Wonderful that the recipe has carried on.
Yeah that recipe is woven into the very fabric of being an Australian.

You can buy Anzac biscuits from the supermarket, but they are hard, dry horrible things, nothing like the home made ones

I'm glad you enjoyed the songs, I thought that they may have only appealed to Australians.

hugs you

I happened to read a nasty section earlier this year of Leon Uris' novel "Redemption" which featured what might have been going on at Galipoli.

Way back in the day I read a lot of Leon Uris, but not (as far as I can remember) "Redemption".

I must track that book down and add it to my "to-read" list

Yeah Galipoli :( our soldiers were dispatched/sacrificed to die on the beach. The Turks knew that they were coming, and our guys didn't have a hope in hell.

It was a bad day and it's now etched into the Australian psyche.
