I did my very first all-day meditation on Saturday, and it was interesting in a boring kind of way. Basically, we started at about 8:30 a.m. and ended at about 5 p.m.; we took regular breaks (including an hour for lunch) so I was actually meditating for about six-and-a-half hours of that ( Read more... )

Four hours of calm sounds really good to me.

I need to find a way to meditate and drive at the same time in order to save some part of my sanity during my daily commute around Large Capital Metropolis. If there were some way to achieve zen while commuting, my life would be much, much simpler.

Funny enough, a lot of Buddhist books recommend taking a meditative attitude toward driving - being aware of your breathing, of your hands on the steering wheel, noticing the stop signs, etc.

I've never been able to do it myself, but it sure sounds nice, don't it?

It sounds perfect, but I don't think I'd be able to do it either. Focusing on my breathing is difficult to do while wondering if that Nissan Pathfinder hurtling my way is about to kill me.

I wonder how the Buddhist Warrior Monks do it.
