I still have a little under a year away but I'd like to have most things started and money ideas so I can enjoy the engagement and not become a bridezilla hehe. Instead of having a DJ, you could borrow someone's iPod or computer, and hook it up directly to a sound system (which you could rent or borrow if you know anyone with the right equipment). You can make playlists of all the music you want, and just let it play out over the night, or have a friend manage it occasionally. That's what we almost did before we found out we could hire the contra-dance band.

As for the photographer, I'm not really sure, ours was out of Grand Rapids and very expensive. Do you have any friends who are into amateur but serious photography? Nancy (my step-mom) has done photography for weddings before, she has the legitimate camera equipment and might be interested. I don't know what she'd charge, though. I mean, I'd do your pictures but all I have is a digital camera. And I'm not even all that well versed in using it. :)

If you want, I have some bridal books that I'm (clearly) not using anymore. There's one called Bridal Bargains, another is Bride's Book of Etiquette, and I also have an Emily Post's Wedding ... )

Our DJ is charging $450 for 7 hours of work. That's the best price I've found. As for photographers, you'll be hard pressed to get anything professional under $1500. Ours is $1850, but my parents are paying for tha part. Try Ed McKinney - I think his smallest package was $1200, but I can't be sure. Good Luck!!!

PS - When's the date?
