I feel like this was never quite a show that had my heart in its hands, you know? I loved what it was doing with examination of a lot of tropes and meta-narratives, and cracked-out WTF moments. But it's hard to expect too much to come out of deconstruction, so I'm rarely disappointed. And the WTF quotient, I'm pleased to say, is higher than ever. Relatedly:
How connected do you feel the overall quality of the show is to the state of Ian Somerhalder's weave?
Extraordinarily. It is always hilarious, as is the show. fin.
I'm actually a bit worried in that it has gotten me invested past Bonnie and Damon, with Rebekah and Tyler.
(have I mentioned how much I love Helena Cain? My love for her is only surpassed by my obsession with Ellen Tigh tbh.)
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! YES! I just re-watched Pegasus this week and will be watching the rest of the arc soon and oh my GOD this show, when it was good, it was oh so good. (Possibly this is why I am so emotionally distant from TVD? I think it was the first show I really mainlined after my big BSG

So much this. Taking it for what it is - is actually the healthiest approach tbh. But, like you, I remain horribly invested in certain characters - it's got its claws in me and it won't let go until the end.
The Pegasus arc is just some of the most stunning television I've ever seen in my life. Rips me to pieces every time. I can imagine that coming to TVD after BSG might have numbed you to the horrors of this baby show because good grief, BSG SEASON FOUR. WHAT.
I'm really surprised at how much I'm enjoying Arrow tbh. I can't stand that superhero template, the whole grim-darque fetish does absolutely nothing for me but there are some redeeming qualities thank god.
I stopped watching TVD at one point, but then my sister dragged me back into its web. I shut my brain off and just watch for entertainment. I guess. lol
I did a marathon of Homeland over the summer and omg I was hooked. This show makes my blood pressure rise. I know you haven't seen this season. So, all I will say is this show has changed my tv viewing experience regarding pacing. It's so damn good.
I didn't really know much about Sherlock mythology or what not, but I decided to watch the show since it came on after POI (which I love). I don't even care about the cases either. I'm just here for the relationships. I love that watson doesn't any shit from holmes. *fist pump*
I keep going back and forth with Arrow. I can't decide right now. However, the most recent episode gave me some serious Clark/Lois/Blur vibes.

You and everyone else is making me horribly excited. Must find time to watch again!

Lol, yes, Arrow. I think it's very much a different strand of Clark/Lois/Blur i.e. Superman's triangle for two. I'm intrigued by it because of just how divergent Oliver and Dinah's philosophies on how to "save" Starling City are - there's a great deal of meat to chew on in there. Their relationship history makes it hard for me to really get into the ship. But I could deal with more exploration of that sort of shifting moralities. Especially if Dinah ends up wearing a costume herself, and what might drive her to do such a thing.
I chose other. It is a master at missing opportunities.
My brain fissured when this ignorant show actually killed Luka and Jonas Martin in the same episode and then killed Greta. But we both know it didn't blow up my entire being until the Salvatores, Bonnie's allies for numbered episodes and the people she'd stop being rigid with, killed her mama and talked about killing her (and they stated that the willingness to kill her is ongoing). Like, you give me a series of episodes where Stefan's treating/speaking to Bonnie as if she's his servant, and then he flips a coin over her life and is complicit in killing her mother? And then only acted like he cared when he was in front of Elena? *Crazed laughter.* Naw, that was the end. I don't write meta about this show anymore, because it's all still the same. There are more examples, sure, but the topics (race, abuse, misogyny, patriarchy, Mamification/desexualization, terrible relationship/friendship dynamics, etc), the topics are still the same. So

I feel sad about The Vampire Diaries; it really is like a broken relationship -- you changed, man, I don't know where we went wrong, I was in love with you and now I feel like I wasted my time and my energy, etc. I'm a couple of episodes behind this year and I will catch up because somehow I still glean some enjoyment out of it but like you I engage in a totally different way now. It just feels like such a waste of energy thinking about the show at all. Even in s2 I was still obsessed with the show even though I hated it, now I'm just kind of indifferent.
I'm loving Elementary; it definitely feels like the most human and most compelling Holmes adaptation. I prefer it to Rathbone and Brett too.
I'm watching Homeland but I just marathoned the whole show so I don't have any specific thoughts on s2 which don't encompass the show as a whole. If you were into it in s1 it's worth catching up, I think, because it remains as compelling (and as fucked up) -- it hasn't deteriorated in quality or substantially changed in tone/style. But yeah. I

I completely agree with this - the two of them, Sherlock and Watson on this show are such a delight. I hope the show doesn't become rubbish (at least for a season).
Oh good about Homeland. It's a complicated show, but I think it's mostly self-aware about what it's doing. I have no idea about the fandom so I'll be interested to hear what they're on about. Yes, let us talk. About anything. Literally. I'll talk about scrambled eggs with you, Mary (and I hate scrambled eggs).

Man, the road to perdition with this show has been littered with broken hearts and blood.
