In follow up to the Canada Post office vs. Canada Post outlet extra fees issue , if you use the 'Find a Post Office' tool on the Canada Post website, any of the search returns named as 'stations' (Stn) are actual Canada Post offices, which won't charge convenience fees.

A very, very happy first birthday is my wish for Howell Hatch today! A parcel will be on its way on Monday when a real Post Office is open, so I don't have to pay extra fees at a Shoppers' Drug Mart postal outlet. :P

The Deirdj is okay. :D No teeth needed to be pulled. She's starting to come out of the anesthetic now, and I can pick her up around 4 pm. They do think she has the start of a cavity on her second lower left premolar, but it's not worth taking her tooth out yet. We'll keep an eye on it and if it progresses we might have to remove the tooth.

They've been on a fast since 8 pm last night, because Deirdre will be under anesthetic in an hour or so. Deirdre gets very vocal when she is hungry. She is doing everything she can think of to make it clear to my limited human intellect that she is absolutely starving! So... Apricot needs to be on an episode of House. In preparation for some tooth extractions to take care of some feline resorptive lesions, I had some bloodwork done in November. It turned out that her alanine transaminase (a liver enzyme) levels were really high - 444 IU/L when the normal range is 5-110 IU/L. The usual reason is an infection of ( Read more... )

Today I have made banana muffins for breakfasts this week, chocolate macaroons for snacks and desserts, butternut squash and red lentil soup for lunches (frozen into serving-sized containers to take to school with me) and tikka masala chicken, basmati rice and pappadum for supper.

My vet called earlier this morning. The news isn't awful. :) Apricot's heart does show mild changes and she has arrhythmia. So... she's going in for an EKG on Thursday, to find out where the arrhythmia is originating from in her heart. Her blood pressure also needs to be checked, as her heart rate is high at 180-190, and should be 170 for a ( Read more... )

As my great aunt was driving me to Ian Anderson House for the memorial of my great uncle Henk, we passed by a couple of houses for sale. I think they might have been foreclosed, because they were being sold by Sotheby's and the Government of Canada. I wonder where the people who lived there once are now ( Read more... )
