WTF?

So in my humor bookmarks I have a site called News of the Weird. Updated every Sunday with the current week's column, the author collects odd news stories from around the globe and presents them in one neatly organized place. I don't always remember to check it out on Sundays, but at some point during the week I do try to spend a few moments ( Read more... )

Doesn't it just boggle the mind? 1 week suspension for heroin but 2 weeks for birth control pills. The latter being a legally obtained with parental permission medically prescribed drug and the former being illegal poison, but the illegal poison is less offensive to the school.

Totally boggles the mind.

Wow, I guess bringing something that countermands the FREAKING LAW just isn't that objectionable anymore.

I would have laughed my head off if the girl had been taking the pills for some other reason, such as to control a hormonal imbalance. Birth control pills are prescribed for things other than pregnancy prevention, after all.

I hear that. My cycle was so irregular when I was in college as an undergrad (from as short as 3 weeks to once as long as 6 months) that if I had been sexually active I'd have been a basket case, and after I went to get tested to see if there was a problem (nothing they could identify) the clinic wanted me to go on birth control pills simply to get me regular. But I figured since I wasn't worried about pregnancy I really didn't need to spend the $20 a month it would have cost and declined.

But yeah. More offensive than heroin. I'm still shaking my head in disbelief.

It shouldn't matter why she's taking the Birth Control...

Other than that, yeah, the school-rule there is just stupidity upon stupidity. *sigh* It was headed that way when I graduated, and I'm sad to see things haven't improved.

Sounds like it's time for a good old-fashioned School Board Purge, like the kind they had in Dover after the "intelligent design" trial fiasco. I'll get the idiot-whacking sticks.

Just out of curiosity, where does one obtain idiot-whacking sticks, and what makes them different from regular whacking sticks?

Idiot-whacking sticks are heavier versions of normal whacking sticks, with the extra mass used to assist in penetrating the thick skulls of idiots.

I have nothing to contribute other than I read too fast the first time through and thought it said "Otakon, Virginia."

I hate Oakton. Every time I need to type "Otakon" into a document, the spellchecker attempts to correct it to "Oakton."

Now I have a place to attach to the name, and I hate it more!

Me, too! Then again, maybe it's because I was reading Otakon Press Relations mail earlier today.
