Ah how much do I love zee Ben fictions... And not only a Ben fic but a Baby!Ben with LonelyGrizzled!Sammiches CROSSOVER... If Sam was way older this might even fit right into the DA timeline. (The largest..well okay not largest, but a major problem with DA/SPN crossovers if a dude doesn't want to go all sorts of more AU than a cx already is.)

I gotta say, I have honestly never seen a fic like this one before, I'm super interested in where yer taking it. :)

Hmmm?

The manticore break-out was 2009, yes? That's about 3 yrs after the end of Devil's Trap in SPN. Sam was born in '83, so he'd be 26 when canons collide. Max and Logan meet in 2019. Sam would only be 36 then. Not so grizzled.

I guess what I meant was that usually SPN/DA crossovers are with Alec and grown up X-5's hence, this one would actually fit... And !Grizzled! as in alone and hunting and all that wander the earth alone and whatnot type stuff...

You just confused me with the If Sam was way older this might even fit right into the DA timeline. bit. I thought I'd made a mistake somewhere in my math.

I decided, when starting this fic, that I wanted to logically merge the two universes, with as little damage to them as possible. It's only a two-part piece, set pre-pulse, but if I write a sequel, I want to see how Sam deals with the Pulse, how having something he's allowed and encouraged to hunt keeps Ben a little bit sane.

I wanted this fic to show Dean by outlining that space in the world where he should be in Sam's life but isn't. Even dead and gone 3 years, he's still the refrence-point that Sam's thoughts occasionally circle around.

Glad you liked it. Was it the premise that did it for you, or the choice of characters, or what?

The second half should be up sometime tomorrow. I totally swore to myself that I'd leave it as a 2-part completed story while I got some other WIPs done, but I started writing the sequel today. Le sigh.

Hmmm... I like both the premise and the choice of characters. I have this theory that Ben is a psychic and it may have contributed to him going nutso. And of course, Sam is Ben, hold the crazy. And maybe that little streak of independence. Together, they seem pretty cool.

And of course, the premise is the one I would've chosen, only with Dean included because Daddy!Dean is the best thing EVER.

Yeah, actually one of the little things I'm running into with the sequel is that there's less humor between Sam and Ben than between Sam and Dean, which is making it feel a little not-SPN.

But still, it's fun to write. Ben's so serious it's humorous sometimes. And Sam's all *headdesk*.

Heh. Glad it's as good as you hoped.

Ben's still buckets-of-crazy in his own way, but I think the big disaster can be averted if he's able to connect to Sam. He can't figure out right from wrong on his own, but he can find an external moral compass to cling to.

I usually keep my Supernatural fic diet strictly to Wincest.

Okay, please tell me it's not too dirty-wrong to have a 17 year age-gap if the younger of the two is 19 when things go sexual. Because the 19yr old Ben-in-my-head Will. Not. Leave. Sam. Alone.

sigh.

oh, and wouldn't Ben make a formidable hunter for the supernatural? he's like a teeny-tiny badass. Sam occasionally things "God, if Dad had only lived to see this ( ... )

I've totally discovered a bullet-proof kink while writing this. Now-grown, former-child-soldier first-time sex. (okay, I had a clue when I read all of the Shatterstar/Rictor X-slash, when I'd never read those characters in the comic books)

There's something very sexy about having this dangerous killing machine being so innocent and lost and needing so much and being terrified of doing it wrong

Glad you liked it. I ain't sayin' Ben's gonna be sane exactly, but I think Sam'll keep his hunter's instinct pointed in a useful direction. Ben's still buckets-of-crazy in his own way, but I think the "hunting people to cut out their teeth" thing can be averted if he's able to connect to Sam.
