'mala dies' sounds sinister

The Romans used to believe that some days were fas and some were nefas (incidentally, where we get 'nefarious' from). You would have to be a loony to expect things to turn out right on a nefas day. Chinese and Japanese people believe similar things about certain days.

Yesterday, I had a nefas day, a conjunction of stars and planets so adverse that ( Read more... )

Wow, it sounds like the Japanese have things organized. Reverse culture shock is a doozy though, especially on top of disorientation.
I have the sense of direction of a rock (not a magnetic rock, mind) so I use Google Maps a lot.

May your feet recover speedily. But just in case they don't, keep in mind the steam powered feet option. If you could run at 200km/h you wouldn't have to worry about train passes, hmm?

That's a bloody good point! I don't see the retail price listed anywhere on that page, though.

I wish I could blame culture shock and/or aliens for my sorry lack of a sense of direction, but ... eh, screw it, let's just do that ;) Damn culture shock!

(Yes, Japanese train stations are a marvel in multiple languages :/)

Ah, I agree with Becca and Beth--bless your AWESOME sense of humor!! You are such a treasure. It's wonderful having both you and Becca back after your being abducted by black holes ^_^

Hope those footsies heal up soon. *shakes head, amused* See, this is why you shouldn't name things so similarly! On a pseudo-random note, did you ever hear about that Californian guy who was waiting for a flight to Oakland, California? They announced the flight, he got on, and when his plane started heading over the Pacific Ocean, he started wondering... After awhile, he flagged down a flight attendant. Turns out the plane was heading for Auckland, NZ, not Oakland, CA.

That was back in the days when it was easier to slip on a wrong flight, apparently ^_^ Still, it amuses me.

Man: Hi, honey, yeah, I'll be home in about 2 hours.

(later)

Man: Um... honey? It'll be a bit longer than that... um...

I can walk! I can walk! *throws crutch in bushes* It's a miracle!!

I think the police chose to build two complexes in remarkably similar-named suburbs to test their employees' powers of observation. (fail!) Perth has some very strange place names, actually. Falcon, Swanbourne, Applecross ... >_>

There's also a suburb called 'Floreat', Latin for 'may it flourish' - rather poncy, but I like it ^_- Plus you never know when Ancient Romans will visit.

*falls over cackling* Made of awesome!! See, you can't do that sort of thing any more! Damn terrorism measures. I'd love to fly to Perth, WA from the eastern states one day and find I was actually headed for Perth, Scotland XD XD

Well, I told my family and received looks of overwhelming lackofsurprise XD; They'll learn, these sergeants, they'll learn.

Self-evidently the Planet of Soy eclipsed the House of Aquarius that day.
