Harry, A History

I just finished Melissa Anelli's "Harry, A History" and kept wondering why I don't remember meeting Melissa, because a lot of the book reminds me of my own time in the Harry Potter Fandom.  How could we have had the same experiences while being hundreds sometimes thousands of miles away from each other.  It was very deja Vu-like.  I have to say ( Read more... )

That's all she said about GT??? I haven't gotten my copy yet (it's supposed to arrive this week), but sheesh... there were tons of ways she could have got better info than THAT!! And she *was* around when it was going on, she was on/around SQ then, so even if she wasn't a frequent GT-er or whatever, she had to have known someone somewhere that could have given her better info. I remember her from the old AtE email group (and I know Anne was on there, but can't remember for sure if you were too...?), so I *know* she was around to some extent.

But yeah... it's just sad that something that vital was summed up that way :-P

I know you know this already, but I LOVE YOU.

So.
Very.
Much.

Honestly, sometimes I feel like we should start a poll or something - of the GTers I'm still in contact with I think I can safely say NO ONE would call that their favorite fic. Though, of course, I'm biased, and whatever. :p No need to mention that. So, yeah...what was I saying? You rule.

Cheers to GT, for it gave me friends I will never forget and people whose name I will never be able to hear without wanting to puke. Those were good times! :p

Lizzie, you should write the fandom book. You summed it up so well!

Ditto to what Anne just said.

Also, I am so fucking. out. of. it. I mean, I'd seen people mention getting a copy of "Harry, A History" and while I vaguely gathered that it had something to do with Harry Potter, I didn't bother to look further into it. So, I read this post, and I'm all "WHAT THE HELL!?!?"

So please, to the next author who writes a book and mentions GT, please don't.

Amen to that.

I can't wait to read that book. Yes, I will vouch for you about the state of being an H/G fan at that time. It was so nice to just find someone else who was reading the books the same way! I never read much fan fiction (I wanted to spend my time writing it. LOL) but I really appreciated knowing there were others who thought the same way I did.

That is awfully dismissive of what GT was, fer shure. And emphasising that particular story is really kind of. . . UGH. I was one of the people who didn't like it, but my issues were primarily with the technique of the author as opposed to the plot (even though that was pretty cheesy as well).

Is there anything in the book about the whole You-Know-Who debacle or is that glossed over?

You should remember that Melissa was friends with Heidi back when GT was still around, so she would probably remember GT as "that site with that sick story". After all, that was all anyone was allowed to say about it without incurring the wrath of the inner circle.
