Okay, I am confused. A lot of my friends have posted entries that say LJ might be going bankrupt, but I checked the news group and didn't see anything about that, with the lastest entry Dec. 18. I just paid for another year's account so it better not disappear. Can anyone fill me in on this?

The News forum is being silent on this. The short version is LJ fired half their U.S. staff, keeping only finance and operations. Whether this means they're in dire financial straits and about to go under, or they're just streamlining and outsourcing to Russia, who knows. Their silence on the matter besides a few vague press releases is what disturbs me.

Yeah, LJ's silence on this disturbs me, too. Usually they are pretty quick to nip the rumors in the bud.

they laid off some of the staff in san francisco, thus causing lj-wide panic. if you respond to this, i will try and dig up some links, but right now i'm going to be late for work if i don't leave. :(

they did some layoffs and its one of those viral things where one person speculated and then it just blew up because everyone was like OH NOES LJ IS ENDING because they saw someone else said it.

a pain, no?

Oh, well I hope that's all there is to it then. There was a doomsday a year or 2 ago that really amounted to nothing.

It's a whole lotta nuthin', as far as I can tell -- there were layoffs and that made everyone panic. (Though I have to admit I did set up an account over at InsaneJournal just in case, and I've been archiving my Livejournal for about a year now but that's more out of a fear of hackers taking the site down than a concern that it's going bankrupt.)

The LJ folks haven't said anything about it on LJ, but there was a post at Twitter :https://twitter.com/LiveJournal and a press release: http://livejournalinc.com/news.php .

Because everyone is panicing, a ton of people are using LJBook to back up their journal. Which is unfortunate because I make a .pdf of the prior year every January. But too many people are using it right now, so I can't.
It's annoying.
