My nephew has been trying to sell a trailer taht he and his wife were living in before they moved in with her parents. It's parked at a trailer park in Las Vegas, the owner of the park allowing him to keep it there for free for the time being because the nephew in question can't afford the space rent at the mo'. If you're interested I can see if he'd rent it to you, and for how much. I doubt it would be expensive, and there are jobs in Vegas.
Honestly, right now, we've told the kid that -somehow-, we'll keep her in COHS through the colorguard season, because she's a colorguard lead this year. She may or may not be there for the winterguard season, but we've at least promisted her the colorguard season, which is until December. Hopefully that'll give us enough time to build up some funds. I don't know yet, because we are REALLY poor at the moment, and moving anywhere (especially out of state) requires money.
I'm actually going to app at Barnes and Noble to start. I've done sales, I've worked with books. Minimum wage is better than I've been getting for years. I considered apping at Walmart, too. But really, what I do is retail sales, and I'm good at it, so that's probably where I'll go initially. Beyond that, who knows. But I need money, FAST.
There really -are- no competing stores, not in our genre, unless we want to move to Escondido and work for The Indian Store down there. And honestly, Larry would be about as bad to work for as Mom was, except that he'd pay us more. Problem is that it costs even more to live down there. It's San Diego county.
The Indian community doesn't have money to speak of. We could go do a blanket dance at a powwow, possibly, but that'd get us about $200 and that'd be it. It's not worth it.
And, well, our variety of business -is- a niche market. It's not something I anticipate doing again until such time as we open another store, and quite frankly, I have no intention of doing that anytime soon.
Looking at future options...kinguAugust 3 2008, 19:12:48 UTC
One of our best contacts for supplies is in the area; while working for him is probably out of the question (though something I'll still talk to him about) if we can somehow manage to scrape up a thousand bucks or so in the not so distant future, it'd be worthwhile for us to hit up some of the local farmer's markets and sell some of our own handmade stuff, as well as the cheap (and horribly profitable) imported stuff. For example: Necklaces we can buy for $3 a dozen typically can retail for $5 each.
So, we may end up doing that as well at some point.
I'll offer up a lot of hugs to ALL of you. What you guys are doing takes a LOT of courage and I admire you and more than that, I'm happy for you. You are worth so much more than you've been getting and I'm REALLY happy for you.
Well, let's hope that it's a relatively smooth transition. I don't quite know yet. We'll see how it goes. It's not going to be easy... but it'll be healthy, and if nothing else, that's a good thing.

What kind of job do you think you'll look for?
