Writing IEP objectives/goals.

This weekend I have to focus on writing IEPs for the three ARDs I have next week. We have been given a new way to write our objectives, so I have a lot of work to do. I have a student who is nonverbal and autistic that currently has twelve pages of objectives that I have to pick out the six most important ones and then align them to the TAKS-alt ( Read more... )

Sorry, I forget that not everyone knows what those acronyms mean. *g* I've gotten so used to them and who knows how many more that are used in Special Education and even in General Education. They have a shortened name for almost every piece of paperwork or test.

They now have a new name for the form that the teachers outline what the student can do. It was Present Levels of Performances (PLOPS) and now it is Present Level of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance (PLAAFP).

Yep, I remember those days of writing IEPS -- long ago because it's been years since the state of PA shifted its sp.ed. for preschool to the intermediate units. However, I've had input much more recently than that and it's very frustrating to have that gut feeling about a child and no documentation to back it up. I was usually right in my informal assessments, but that didn't mean I could do anything.

My biggest problem is lack of motivation to show me that he can do the skills. I can't consistently get him to do it even though I know he can.

I got one of the three partially finished and just have to decide on my baseline data or stating point and go from there. I talked to the other special ed teacher on my campus last night to get her opinion on my choices and she told me to take a break from it for a bit so I did.

Today will be finishing them up so I can show one of our admin staff members the goals on Monday and make sure I did it correctly. I really need more than a few days notice on these things.
