Title: 51. The Amazing Merlin (The Boy Next Door Series)

51. The Amazing Merlin
After some protest from Arthur, they all finally agreed on taking only Will’s car. Merlin sits on the front with the boy (after Will insists on the arrangement) and Gwen, Arthur and Morgana squeeze on the backseat.
“You don’t like Will.” Morgana states in a whisper on Arthur’s ear when she notices her brother glaring daggers at the back of the boy’s head.
“What? Don’t be silly Morgana!” Arthur protests a little sullen in the same hushed tone.
“You’re jealous.” She taunts with smirk, receiving a glare in response. It would actually be scaring if she wasn’t used to it already.
“We’re here.” Merlin says excited when Will pulls up in front of metal gates.
Arthur gazes at the place a little warily once he steps out of the car. The construction is old and imposing, but Merlin doesn’t seem even a little bit concerned as she opens the gate. He trusts her enough to keep his own wariness quiet.
When they approach the main building, there’s a woman waiting outside to greet them with a warm smile. Merlin rushes forward with a fond expression that Arthur only ever seen her direct to her mother.
“Hey Hunith, sorry we’re late.” Hunith just smiles wider before pulling the girl in a tight embrace.
“It’s fine Merlin, you know that. I’m very glad you could come.”
She greets Gwen and Will in the same manner before turning a gentle smile towards the two Princes.
“Who are these?”
“Oh!” Merlin jumps forward. “These are Morgana and Arthur.”
Hunith shakes both of their hands still smiling, but the gaze she shoots Arthur is a little too knowingly to be comfortable.
“Come on in now. The kids are waiting!”
Hunith guides the confused siblings to an ample room, where several kids of different ages are sitting on the ground. Some turn to glance at the two newcomers questioningly, but most just remain on their activities. Apparently, they were all writing letters.
“They’re orphans.” Hunith explains quietly when she sees Arthur puzzled look. “We take care of them. Merlin and her friends come around at least once a month to help with games, scavenger hunts… those sorts of things. They’re just great.”
“She never told me any of that.” Arthur states surprised.
“I guess she’s just shy about it. Kids really adore her. The Amazing Merlin.” Hunith says with a chuckle.
“The Amazing Merlin?” He repeats with a bemused frown.
“Oh… you’ll see.”
She points a chair to him on the back and for the first time, Arthur notices the red curtain on the other side of the room. He doesn’t have time to ask though; the lights dim, the children cheer and suddenly, Will is stepping through the red fabric with a top-hat and fake mustache.
“Boys and Girls… I’m proud to introduce she who conquered all the depths of magic; the one who can put the very Magic of Oz in shame; the wonderful, unbelievable, astonishing, The Amazing Merlin!”
Another loud cheer echoes through to room as the curtain opens to reveal Merlin wearing a midnight blue and a pointy hat. She moves past the curtains with a huge smile and snaps her fingers. A rain of golden stars falls from the ceiling and Arthur gasps in surprise. Wow! That was really, truly amazing!
