The store is small and dusty as far as Arthur can see, but if he’s going to find what’s he’s looking for, this should be the place.
He pushes the glass door open and a little bell clangs announcing his entrance. A few heads turn to look at him with suspicion. He’s doesn’t fit in; no black and leather. But Arthur is not the kind of guy who frightens easy, so he ignores the looks and starts to browse over the shelves looking for something Merlin would like.
Except, everything in the store looks like a possible gift for the girl and he can’t choose.
“Can I help you?” A voice asks behind him and Arthur turns to see a guy in his early twenties, dark hair and brown eyes looking at him with actual sympathy.
“Yes…” He looks down at the man’s shirt (Metallica. Merlin would like him) to check his name tag. “Lance. I’m looking for a gift.”
“Ok.” Lance nods, turning to look at the shelves. “What does you friend like? What are his tastes?”
“Hers, actually.” Arthur corrects swiftly. “She likes heavy metal. Anything that sounds like people are getting killed during the song.”
Lance actually chuckles.
“Not a big fan of her kind of music?”
“Not in the slightest.” He replies with a smile. The man was easy to talk to.
“Alright.” Lance points to the other side of the shop. “Here we have Black Sabbath, Rob Zombie, Cradle of Filth…”
Arthur picks one of the CDs, frowning at the cover, before putting it away.
“Not what I’m looking for, I’m afraid.” He thinks how to say it without sounding pathetic. “I want something that she likes, but… well… I’m trying to…” he trails off, lost of words, but Lance just smirks.
“I get it. You’re trying to get in her pants.” He completes with a suggestive waggle of eyebrows that makes Arthur laughs.
“Not primarily, no. I really like her.” Lance smiles.
“What’s her favorite band?”
“AC/DC.” Arthur answers automatically and Lance smirks.
“Then we’re in the wrong section. You said heavy metal. AC is more hard rock.”
“Like I said, I don’t really enjoy listen to the same things. To me it sounds like Saw, the soundtrack.”
Lance chuckles, going through the CDs.
“AC/DC is not just noise, man. They got good lyrics. Not to mention they don’t scream. Much.” He pulls a CD out and hands over to Arthur.
“She has this one.” Arthur says, returning the disk.
They spent around 15 minutes browsing through the CDs, but Arthur dismisses all of them.
“Sorry to inform you, my friend, but it seems like she has the entire discography.” Lance announces with an apologetic smile and Arthur huffs.
“Of course she does!” he mutters annoyed under his breath. “Always complicating my life, Merlin!”
Lance looks at him with eyebrows raised in surprise.
“Merlin?” He repeats.
“Yes.” Arthur shrugs, making a face. “Don’t even bother mocking. I’ve heard it all.”
“No. it’s just…” Lance chuckles. “Lance, it’s actually short for Lancelot. How much of a coincidence is that?”
This time, it’s Arthur who stares at him in shock.
“Not as much as the fact that my name is Arthur.” He says snickering.
“You’re shitting me, right?” Lance asks, a little suspicious.
“I have my driver’s license here if you’d like to check it out.”
“No, man. I believe you.” Lancelot grins. “What a small world.”
“Tiny.” Arthur replies, grinning too.
