75. A Favor for Morgana
Morgana enters in Merlin’s room with a little spring on her steps that makes the older girl smile in amusement. She jumps on Merlin’s bed, grinning widely.
“I need to ask you a favor.”
“Go ahead.”
“Remember Gawain?” Merlin chuckles at the dreamy look in the girl’s face at the mention of her crush.
“Of course. What about him?”
“He asked me out!”
“That’s great, Morgana!” Merlin grins, sincerely happy for her.
“Yeah…” Now she looks slightly disappointed. “Except, dad will only let me go if Arthur goes too.” Morgana rolls her eyes annoyed and Merlin smiles in sympathy.
“That can’t end well.”
“He’ll be the annoying older brother he is and hover all the time.” She complains in displeasure.
“True.” Merlin agrees.
“That’s where you come in.” Morgana is smiling conspiratorially now. “You tag along and keep Arthur off my back. Would you that for me, Merlin?”
Merlin looks unsure; things with Arthur had been tensed lately.
“Please?” The girl begs. “Pretty, pretty please?” Puppy dog eyes and a pout are thrown in for good measure.
“Alright.” Merlin says chuckling. “I’ll go.”
“Oh thank you!” Morgana says in relief. “I’ll go tell Arthur, dad and call Gawain. You’re the best Merlin! See you in a couple of hours!”
“Wait! Tonight?” Merlin asks surprised as Morgana’s almost at the door.
“Yeah. Tonight.” She pouts again. “You can come tonight, right?”
“Yes. Just…” Merlin shakes her head. “Nothing. Never mind. See you soon.”
Morgana grins at her and skips out of the room.
