101. Little Brother
Arthur squeezes Merlin’s hand in reassurance when, after 10 minutes parked outside her father’s house, she still hadn’t get out of the car.
“It will be fine, I’m sure.”
“I’m not.” Merlin looks up pleading. “Please come in with me.”
“I wasn’t invited, Merlin”
“I’ll talk to my father, he won’t send you away. Please Arthur.” The blonde sighs deeply, feeling terrible for doing this.
“You have to go alone this time.” Arthur presses a kiss on her forehead. “I’ll be a phone call away, but you have to go now.”
Merlin sighs and nods her acceptance. She had agreed to come to dinner; she couldn’t hide in Arthur’s car.
Glancing one last time at Arthur’s confident smile, Merlin climbs out of the car and slowly makes her way to the front door, knocking quietly, but firmly. It only takes a couple of seconds for it to be opened.
The brunette woman on the other side of the door smiles widely and warmly at Merlin; She seems nice.
“You must be Merlin, nice to meet you, I’m Agatha, please come in.”
Merlin glances back at the car just in time to catch Arthur’s wave before he speeds away. No escape route. She follows Agatha inside.
“Joe is not back from work yet, but he should be here soon enough. But that’s good right? It gives us time to meet properly.” The woman rambles as she guides Merlin to the living-room. Apparently she is as nervous as Merlin feels. “You’re in your senior year of school? What are you plans for college?”
Agatha points Merlin to one of the couches and takes a seat besides her, looking at the girl in earnest.
“Well, for now, I’m hoping on majoring in English.” Merlin answers politely, looking around the room. “You have a very nice home.”
“Oh, thank you.” Agatha smiles wide. “Would you like something to drink? Water? Maybe a soda?”
“Water is fine.” Agatha nods and stands up to move to the kitchen.
“Mom?” A boy calls from the stairs and Merlin turns to look, gasping at the sight of dark hair and familiar, bright blue eyes.
“Oh honey, come over here and meet Merlin.” Agatha beckons, glancing at Merlin with a smile. “Merlin, I’d like you to meet my son, Mordred.”
“Hi.” The boy says shyly, hiding behind his mother.
“Hi.” Merlin manages eventually, recovering from the shock.
Mordred is her brother. The man who killed Arthur and whom Merlin killed in her past life is her little brother.
The Gods sure have an absurd sense of humor.
