*I seem to be slightly out of practice. I studied like crazy for chemistry and got the world's worst headache, LOL. (Gives new meaning to the statement: "Don't think too hard or you'll hurt yourself.") You can get a C in chemistry and still be eligible for the nursing program, but I figure it can't hurt to get as close to an A as possible ( Read more... )

I am worried about this studying thing. It's been a long long time. The last time I took classes with exams and everything was around 1995. All the coursework I've done since has been education classes which, on the graduate level, require little to no actual work or intellect--they are created as degree mills so teachers can get hours and pay raises. That is why I refuse to spend anymore of my hard-earned money on a graduate program in education.

Yeah, it's taken some adjustment. It's starting to get back into place in my brain -- but I'm getting used to studying again, slowly but surely.

Know the better you do the better you understand the material and the better it looks if you are going for grad school and what not

Definitely. It's going to be rough, but I'll get through it. Hopefully! :P

AHX is one of those films I'm very glad to have seen but don't ever want to see again. It was more than disturbing enough for me the first time. Images in the first five minutes will never leave me. Eeek. I guess it did its job.

I wonder if there's some sort of point system for the censors. You can get away with a "shit" but it costs two points instead of the one you pay for a "hell," say, so you use up your points and then have to go back to the old-school way? It's weird, though, because to be honest, a movie like that loses its punch if you sanitize the language. The language is such an important part of the character and the whole setting, even. Anyway, just a weird theory that popped into my head. :)

My fiancé says it all has to do with the time it's on; you're allowed a few hells, and a few damns at, say, 8 o'clock, and then a few more at 9, and more at 10, etc, because they assume the kids are in bed by 9. It seems weird, because I think the film started at the 8 o'clock slot, and I know that's iffy. I'm a huge fan of How I Met Your Mother, and the creators repeatedly mention being surprised the characters are allowed to cuss as much as they do, in addition to talking about sex all the time, at 8.

Well, that's a good point--the UK "watershed" is much better known than any such thing is here, but it does make sense that something similar would apply. Still rather odd that it worked out the way it did, though!
