Making tough choices.....

One of my cowrokers recently married. He's a nice guy. I like him, and I hope he and his wife have a blissfully happy life together. Another coworker is going around asking for monetary contributions for a card/gift. Since the passage of Prop 8 and MN's definition of  marriage being one man one woman with no recognition of same sex unions I just ( Read more... )

Tell them that while you support the relationship your coworker has with his "life partner," you don't recognize his marriage. =)

a)when people first started congratulating me on my marriage, I would often say,"Thank you. We are very lucky; atleast he and I CAN get married". And wait for that to sink in.
b)If you ever want to read something that turns your blood cold, read the original debate by the State and Federal governments (of the U.S.) as to why they should legally recognize marriage. I only had the stomach to read halfway through a document penned at the turn of the century...but suffice it to say that women were regarded as nothing more than potential breeders and marriage nothing more than a means to encourage population growth....with an eye towards increasing taxable revenue.
