I was looking at a short clip from talk given by the head of the EPA and found this comment at the top of the list of comments:

"The EPA is a joke. It's just another coercive government monopoly that destroys jobs & freedom. If they were serious about reducing pollution they would take the "tragedy of the commons" seriously & auction off public ( Read more... )

Teachers' unions! Immigrants, single mothers, and teachers' unions. Though the column itself was the soul of reasoned argument compared to some of the comments. Like the one from the guy that claimed (or at least strongly implied) that economic iniquity was partially the fault of the rich, because if they didn't keep subsidizing single mothers and poor teenagers, they'd all die off like God intended. Eugh.

Yes, there seems to be a marked surplus of stupid at the moment. However, the best way to deal with stupid is generally to use your logic and evidence to tear it to shreds, and in the process use it to test, refine, and reinforce your own opinions, as you have done so nicely here. J S Mill would be proud. :P

I need to practice my reasoned defenses. I'm very bad at keeping a cool head when arguing.

I was tempted to post a reply to the comment on youtube, but then I thought that it would be too cruel. I mean this is my major and likely my specialization within my major. I can total brawn some loud-mouthed, commenting wanker. Also, his reply would probably be, "Yah, so what do you know you stuck-up bitch." Which is far to dumb a reply to warrant wasting inbox space. The more I study the less I get libertarianism. I use to think it was reasonable and made sense. Now I know better.

I was very happy with the Fry and Laurie sketch. It made me feel like my Fry and Laurie binge wasn't entirely wasteful. I was edu-tainment-ful!
