boy is T going to rue the day he decided to get a new dishwasher...

so, now I'm obsessing at work about new counter tops (rather than work you see).  I'm perusing silestone.  My dilemma is that I really don't mind our backsplash, even though it's the same tile as the counter, hahahaha.  Yeah, I know.  The dilemma is silestone or granite, but I don't ( Read more... )

Um, I think I say this because you didn't design your house?

Anything would be an improvement over what you have now. Shades of brown. Yikes!

helloooooo 70s remodel! yep, not our first choice. The white appliances really make it look hideous. With the stainless, it's much nicer. And the cold pulls and backplates? Absolutely hideous. It looks a bit better today.

We have silestone in our bathrooms- I love that shit.
Did you match that color to the backsplash?
And I know you don't mind the backsplash, but it is kinda dated, so if you're gonna spend the money on countertops you should do the entire thing, I think (but I always think in terms of having to sell within three months).
Just a simple 4 inch hight backer peice shouldn't be crazy to do.
And I think we have the same stove.

yeah, I was thinking of matching to the backsplash. I just dread the idea of removing it all and perhaps discovering a mess behind it. The walls are lathe/plaster, I think. It backs up to the hall, and I know those walls are plaster, but not sure if when they remodeled that they did something different to the walls. Either way, ripping that shit out might be more trouble than it's worth? But who knows, a nicer tile scheme might be nicer. I'd love to do something cool like a mosaic over the stove.

I'm not sure how dated the backsplash is anymore they seem to be coming back. I dunno...what to do, what to do.

The stove is a maytag btw.
The house was built in '55. I kinda like keeping a period look with modern upgrades, if that makes sense.
