Com To The Con

Aug 04, 2008 10:46

My witty husband wrote a wrap up of our annual Comic-Con adventure, so I've stolen it to repost here as I am very lazy! I did want to add: how excellent it was to get to hang out with sisterbean and enolarama at and after the show ( Read more... )

I'm so jealous. I wanted to go so badly this year.

I can't believe Ray Bradbury is still alive. He's such a nice guy. He did a signing at my old Barnes & Noble in Huntington Beach about once a year. He was awesome.

"Dollhouse" does nothing for me. As much as I love Faith, I'm not convinced Eliza Dushku can act. The premise just doesn't sound like it lends itself to that trademark witty Joss dialogue either.

Seriously, though, as much fun as Comic-Con is, the crowds and the lines would likely cause you to go completely NUTS. It was better organized than last year, when we had to wait 2.5 hours in the blazing sun to pick up our badges that we had PREREGISTERED FOR! This year we got smart and got in line for stuff early, but we still had to wait in line for 1hr15min for the Spaced panel (who the heck knows about Spaced yet except freaks like us... ah, TONS of people) and we basically camped out in one of the larger presentation halls ALL of Saturday (that would be 10:30am-4:30pm) to avoid missing certain panels.

I approve of this post. It almost makes me want to go. Almost. The Dharma thing kills me.

Also, I fully expect Dollhouse to suck.

I sort of feel like you went to panels so that I wouldn't *have* to... uh... Thank you?

Not a problem. It was nice of them to program a bunch of panels I wanted to see back to back in one room (hence the camping out). Otherwise, not sure if I'd have gotten to see as many as I did.

They were immediately put to death... kidding! Eliza did threaten to "go all Faith" on them. :) Joss took the opportunity to sell the show, which I think sounds really interesting... of course, I drank that Kool Aid long ago! I love all things Whedon.

me too, more or less.
if you are ever in the LA area, I can try to arrange a visit to Dr Horrible's lair. through a small but amusing series of events, it was shot at a house I know quite well. :)

Did you guys see anything on the Watchmen?

We did not. On Friday, the Spaced panel conflicted with both the Watchmen panel AND Joss Whedon Love-Fest #1 (which covered Dr. Horrible and all Joss's various comic books... apparently Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion were there... sigh.) Sometimes in life you have to make choices. And we chose Spaced! :)

We weren't too bummed about missing the Watchmen panel. We already saw the trailer (with you guys, I think) and Zack Snyder isn't a very compelling speaker (we saw last year's Watchmen panel AND the 300 panel, and that was quite enough hearing him yammer on.)
