Love actuallly...

Picture around 30 people 2 to 80 years old waiting outside of the Kansas City Airport terminal, anxiously watching people exit the jet-way from a newly arrived plane. They are getting antsy as more and more people stream from the plane and then the flow dwindles. Finally, the last people step from the jet-way; a caucasian woman carrying a beautiful ( Read more... )

Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually... is all around ( ... )

Did you actually have that memorized or did you do a lot of rewinding and pausing? Impressive either way.
The thing that struck me the most was that this little baby that previously had no one in the world was immediately given overwhelming, enviable amounts of unconditional love. It certainly helped me endure 18 hours of traveling.

Some combination of both, tragically. The amount of that speech that I have memorized is actually quite obscene; I'm a big fan of the arrival gate of air ports and was before the movie. When Hugh started reciting that speech at the beginning of the movie, I had one of those, "Holy cow, other people have that thought, too," moments. Very surreal.

Good to know that I am impressive either way.

And, honestly, that gave me a little bit more hope for the world.

PS: Get instant messenger and keep me company this week if you have nothing better to do than "boo" go hiking. I have to write that dumb paper.
