a/r fanfic recs

Hey Yall!

A friend of mine wants to foray into a/r fanfics and asked me for some recommendations. I was trying to compile a list of absolute must-reads, but it’s been harder than expected. Especially fics that are situated in the BSG universe, as I myself have been mostly reading A/U recently.

Does anybody maybe have a list ready? Or any great recs

I don't have a list on hand, but I could make one. I was just wondering if your friend has perused Survival Instinct yet. It's an A/R treasure mine over there. And also, what genre does she like? Fluff? Angst? Angst with a side of fluff? Crack?

Oh my gods! I don't know.. What I do know is that she's really into happy endings. So I'd say fluff with a serving of angst and vice versa?

I think she has already been reading a bit, but not not as obsessively as perhaps the rest of us. And SI is amazing of course, but it's a bit overwhelming at first, there's so much to choose from. Last night I was trying to compile a list using SI and I had no idea where to start. In part because I am really bad with names and titles, so I simply couldn't find what I was looking for. bad me.

I already warned her that any recs she gets from me, will most likely be M/MA rated. ;P
So I am hoping to present her with something more diverse in the end..

Most of these are M/MA rated, but there are a few in the K-T range.

Here's a couple that I really adore.

Beautiful in her Armour by mscrwth

If Not, Winter by OlgaLuthien (babyfic, but really, really good babyfic)

Both are set in the BSG universe, but go AU.

Anything at all by miabicicletta - her masterlist is here

I recced a bunch of Laura-focused fic here - the A/R fics are marked, but there's a bunch of other Laura or Laura/other fics there too, if she gets the urge to branch out a bit.

Also, averita has a big A/R rec list here, mostly older fic :)

Perfect! I cannot believe I forgot to mention 'beautiful in her armour' on the list I was compiling! That's an absolute must.

I have never heard of that term before! lol I am super happy that there are still so many goodies left for me to explore!

You're welcome, hon :) Beautiful in her Armour is one of my favourite fics ever, definitely.

Mia's stuff is amazing. Definitely check her out if you have the chance. She's writing an amazing BSG/Hunger Games crossover here with the wonderful olga_theodora (who wrote the If Not, Winter fics) and it's so, so good. It's a work-in-progress, but it's already pretty long, and everyone is in it.

You should have a look at the Top Ten Favourite fics and series at Survival Instinct. :) The tabs are just at the top of the page.

Thank you! I love the top ten lists, it was the first thing I went for when I started out. Now, I was looking more for personal opinions rather than statistics. :D Also, I thought not everything was listed at SI? But maybe that's mostly my confusion talking, as the author's names often don't match up. Those top 10s are really awesome! thanks again!

The reason why I love SI is because you will find some of the first ever written fics; that archive is the extension of adama_roslin which was the first LJ AR community :D. A lot of writers have moved on from the fandom now, but archived their stories at SI. :)
