Am I the only person on LJ who isn't flipping their spleen over this sudden "no more basic accounts, now it's advertisements for all" business? Is it really such an enormous imposition, to have some ads here and there? Have I just gotten too used to all the other sites on the Internet having commercial claptrap scattered about that I can just ( Read more... )

Apparently it is a very big deal! Here and there and everywhere, there's foot-stampery over "NOW WE ALL MUST HAVE ADS, OH WOE".

Sorry to let you know about it. D: Ignorance is bliss, perhaps.

Since I'm a citizen of Russia, my biggest thought on reading those comments on the news post is... Man, for a country that loves to drool and whine all over being politically correct and respectful of others, Americans sure are quick to turn disgustingly and morbidly racist whenever they're butthurt.

No, no. I hear ya. I think anything LJ does anything people just like to OH NOES THIS IS TEH END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT AND THEY DO IT TO OPPRESS US. Which is pretty irritating, frankly.

I AGREE ENTIRELY.

Seriously. It's no big fucking deal. Gonna bitch and whine about ads? Pay to upgrade. If it's that big an issue, then fix it. Honestly. If LJ is something SO IMPORTANT that people are gonna cry and whine about some ads, then they obviously care enough to pay for an account!

RAWRGABLE!

I think the big problem with this whole no more Basic accounts thing is that fact that LJ put it in action and THEN told its users about it. It comes off as them doing it behind the users' back.

I personally see the move as nothing then a pure business move for more money from the site. Honestly, will a few Basic accounts with little features really hurt LJ's wallet?

But yes, I am starting to get tired of the constant drama on LJ between its users and the Powers That Be of LJ the more I think of all of it...
