Round 2 // Sign-up post
Welcome to R2 of lantis_lims
Those of you familiar with this comm will recognise the different layout. The R2 layout has been very kindly designed by elli (thank you :)). In additional, I have redesigned the user info and made sure all the information there is up to date.
The Lowdown:
lantis_lims is a LIMS competition for SGA, with no focus on one specific character or episode. Each week participants are provided with between 5-12 caps and are assigned the task of making one icon entry unless otherwise stated. These caps may be chosen by theme, gender, episode, colour etc. You will be informed of the challenge requirements.
This round I have decided to allow the use spoilerish caps from the first half of S3 (so up to "The Return, Part I"), so please factor this into your decision to participate.
Each challenge is open for five days, with voting commencing after and lasting two days. Hence, each challenge lasts a week in total. I usually run the challenges by a set schedule (last round challenges opened on the Saturday, closed on the Thursday, and voting closed on the next Saturday), but I have not yet decided the schedule for this round (it depends on my RL commitments).
Results are announced after the voting deadline and, as is the nature of LIMS, participants are eliminated. At lantis_lims, two users are eliminated per challenge - unless there are ties. In additional, two users are selected by voters for Members' Choice and two users are selected by me for Mod's Choice.

A word on the purpose behind LIMS and how that relates to lantis_lims:
In my personal opinion, Last Iconmaker Standing competitions are about obtaining feedback on your icon style - basically, where improvement is needed in your work. LIMS are not about winning. lantis_lims complies with this belief. If your sole motivation for signing up is to win, then I advise you not to put your name down. If you can't take constructive crit, then don't sign up.
And yes, constructive crit exists. All crit you will receive here will be constructure, otherwise you bet I'll be having a word with the voter if their intent is malicious.
Chances of winning here are slim. Let's look at the math. Last round had 52 participants, which means you had a 1 in 52 chance of winning. Last round also saw (early on, mind you) a few participants annoyed at their elimination. I don't want people saying "I guess I don't belong here because you don't appreciate my icon style" etc. That's not positive at all.
I'd like to touch on another point: voting. Yes, voting is inconsistent. Yes, you will get an LF (least favourite) vote for your cropping in addition to a F (favourite) vote for your cropping. Why? Because this is an open vote by everyone. Because we're all human with different tastes. What looks good to one person will look terrible to another.
I hope I haven't discouraged you from joining already, but in case I have, read this section:
Why Should I Join lantis_lims:
- It keeps to its schedule
- It supplies more than one cap per challenge
- It attracts a wide variety of people with a TON of different styles
- The voters almost always supply reasons for their F (favourite) votes, meaning you will get positive feedback, too
- You meet great people - great iconmakers, to boot! - here (this reason, I must admit, is all based on my personal experience).

To sign up for Round 2, please reply to this thread. If you've never participated here before, I'd appreciate it if you introduced yourself to both the returning R1 participants and me.
