I've also decided to say the rosary more often. I'd also like to go to stations of the cross at least once. I'm not sure about giving things up. Guess I need to hurry up and decide!
I remember when I did the rosary thing, because it was back when I had a tape deck in my car and I had a rosary tape I'd say along with whenever I was on the road. I keep meaning to try to find a spoken rosary to put on my ipod, so i can do it that way again. I also have a rosary ring that a friend got me in Mexico that I wear and looking at it reminds me too.
As a (relatively) recent convert (7 yrs ago) I've never even done the stations. My MIL is a cradle Catholic, so I should go with her and figure out how to do that.
1st of all--yay to someone else calling it pop. I was always mocked by my out of town friends for calling it pop. :) I should just call it my drug of choice. I give up pop most Lents and I probably will again, but like you, I like to perhaps not always give up something, but take something on that I normally wouldn't. Attending church would be a good one. I may steal that idea. :)
Also, I noticed that you're listening to Dane Cook. I just saw that the other night and nearly smothered the baby I was nursing b/c I was laughing THAT hard.
Steal away. I've just been feeling really disconnected spiritually, and I know that is in large part to not going to church regularly. We'll see if it helps.
I confess, I thought about giving up all forms of carbonated beverages, but I'm just not that strong. :P Good for you, though! I think it's a worthwhile sacrifice.
I always try to give up something that's difficult - a real sacrifice - and will make me a little healthier to do without. This year, it's meat, chocolate, and Coca-cola. It's been less than 24 hours, and I'm already going nuts. (I realized you asked for something exciting, but alas, I'm just not....)
It doesn't have to be interesting! Actually I admire you giving up Coke AND chocolate, because I'm beginning to suspect that I am replacing my pop intake with sweets -- which is def counter-productive on the caloric side. I'm THISCLOSE to changing my sacrifice to reducing all pop down to one a day. But then I'd feel like a total failure, so I'm gonna tough it out. Ugh.
One thing to remember is that (I have been told) we have a reprieve from our Lenten sacrifices on Sundays. So you could have a little treat then. I tell ya, I'm really looking forward to my one MtnDew that day. *wistful sigh*
