This weekend, I'm attending the 10th annual Voices United ACDA Conference at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. It's a 15 minute drive from my house, and I get to see a TON of fantastic sessions for teachers/future teachers of music. I've already learned a lot and it has only been one day ( Read more... ) -

We had to put our dog down this morning. Max was 13 and lived a good life, but he's been really sick for a while and it was just time to let go. Still one of the saddest things I've ever done, and my poor little sister has been sobbing for 2 hours straight. Sigh. -

Much as I love working at Borders, they are cutting payroll hours, and can only offer me 20 hours/week for the summer, which is obviously not enough. On a whim this afternoon, I drove over to the Clyde's restaurant in Ashburn, and they hired me on the spot. I start in a week as a hostess, and in 2-3 weeks I'll be put as a server. My jury is over and it went extremely well. I know how much work Dr. Choi put into my lessons this semester, and I've really grown as a singer, and I'm so grateful. I don't know my scores yet, but I don't actually care, I'm sure my grades are good and thats all that matters. In Madison Singers, we're performing a song cycle of three "Nocturnes," which are a set of night- themed poems set to music by Morten Lauridsen. Lauridsen is basically a genius among choral composers, so we're having a ball learning these songs. We've just started the second in the set, called "Soneto de la Noche," by Pablo Neruda.
