If it's any consolation, there's a pretty slim chance that Bush's amendment will pass. It's really damn tough to achieve a 3/4 majority vote.

By the same token, though, if it does pass it'll be a bitch to repeal.

I think a great start would just be getting Bush out of the White House. He definitely doesn't have my vote. (And I have a vote now, too. :D)

Yeah...it could take years before a change in the constitution is made. I'm giving my vote to Kerry this year anyways...hopefully the electoral college won't screw my vote.

Bush infuriates me beyond words sometimes. The fact that the vast majority of my school are Bush supporters amplifies the effect to a great degree.

I agree that marriage isn't sacred. If marriage was truly a religious institution, then tax benefits for it would be deemed unconstitutional, due to the First Amendment, stating that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion. . ." If tax benefits are being given to those that are married, and marriage is a religious institution, then respect is being given to an establishment of religion, right?

Doesn't this nullify Bush's statement? After all, the word 'sacred' means "worthy of religious veneration", correct? If marriage is worthy of religious veneration, and tax benefits are being given to those that are married, then congress is respecting a certain religion.

This all leads to the crux of my argument, which is: Bush is a moron.
