This should be of interest to those who are not currently in MA Latin. It is one of those fantastic general-purpose quotes that one occassionally comes across:

You could at least translate it for those of us who don't know Latin. Or are too lazy to translate it. Wait a sec. We were in the same Latin class. And we're both kinda lazy at times...

"Just as, by looking into shadows, we see nothing, and by listening to silence, we hear nothing, so it is that, by comprehending the [motive force of creation], we understand nothing."

The idea, if not clear enough, is that ylen is beyond the minds of men to comprehend, just as there is detail in shadow that cannot be seen with the limited sight of men.
