In defence of Medievalists, Re: Physicists: at least Medievalists are not constantly in the news for conducting research along the lines of creating black holes, breaking into other dimensions, and generally messing with the fabric of space. Don't get me wrong, that's all awesome--I just cringe every time I see an experiment described as having a 'small, but non-zero' chance of destroying the earth/universe/causality. Physicists may be weirdoes with obscure interests, but one should take interest in the direction these obscure interests lead them, whereas you can pretty much ignore medievalists as harmless nutjobs.
