And for a week. I'll be heading to Vegas on Friday for family vacation. Any suggestions of activities or sights from those who have been there before

-The second you walk in to any casino you will handed a crapton of coupons. Read the fine print carefully, but there will still be good deals on tons of shows. Also just walk up to the box office at many casino/theaters and they will often have matinee tickets readily available

There are also cheesy museums galore. Some casinos (Flamingo I think) that have a rich history have their own museum which are fairly interesting.
I remember after about 4 days I had had enough of bright shiny lights and rented a car to drive out to nearby Red Rock canyon for a day of hiking (beautifaul park - remind me, I have pictures). Place like that too much walking for your mom but there are lots of other less strenuous daytrips - http://www.lvlg.com/lasvegas/attracts/parks.htm.
Good suggestions, all. Dont' forget the other outside (free) shows on the main Strip, like the volcano, the pirate ship attack, etc.
Red Rock canyon also had some wonderful events/trail rides (with horses strong enough to carry me at my heaviest). It is beautiful.
I also like to make at least one day trip. My favorite was to the West Rim of the Grand Canyon: a quick, small plane trip away, an Indian reservation, a restaurant on top of an abandoned guamo mine...
First, buy your tickets to stuff NOW. Don't wait till you get there, you will not be able to get the shows you want. But I suggets: Hit the Penn and Teller show: Location: Penn & Teller Theater Rio 3700 W. Flamingo Rd. Las Vegas, NV 89103 Map It
If my likes old 50's Music, check out Jersey Boys, my mom really liked it. Location: Palazzo Theater Palazzo 3325 S. Las Vegas Blvd. Las Vegas, NV 89109 Map It
Show Times: 7 p.m. Thur. - Mon.; 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Tue.; additional 10 p.m. show Sat.
I've been there at a conference and haven't actually gotten to do a lot on my own. The water show at the Bellagio is very cool (and free.) The view from the Stratosphere is pretty cool, but I was at an event there, so I don't know how it works getting up there ordinarily. It's kind of like the Space Needle, plus it has a roller coaster and other thrill rides on top of it, 900 feet in the air, which is just insane.
I would suggest getting in touch with a local, Ernst's real life baby sister. I have her contact info if you are interested. She's been out there for well over a decade.

You don't need to bring me anything. But if you find something reminiscent of F&LILV...
