I need to get myself in the right frame of mind to kill and traumatise Jack in my WWI fic in what will be a really unpleasant way, so this is somewhat angsty...

Flights of Angels Sing Thee to Thy Rest
by Laura
Jack hasn’t slept properly for nearly one hundred and fifty years. His brain just won’t let him. He’s seen too much, he knows too much (and not enough), he’s lost far too many people.
When he does sleep, it’s restless, full of nightmares: seeing his friend being tortured, Cybermen, Daleks, being abandoned on the Games Station.
And so many of his own deaths: shot through the heart, fell off a cliff, trampled by stallions, the Great War (he'd burnt, stuck in a flimsy little plane) the Second World War (again, he'd burnt, trapped in a Spitfire).
Jack’s brain won’t let him sleep, his body won’t let him permanently die.
He’s exhausted, worn out; having his life sucked out of him by Abaddon hasn’t helped the situation. So when he hears the familiar grinding noise of an old friend, Jack runs, his team forgotten.
Because he’d slept better on the TARDIS than he had for years, surrounded by love and the wonderful ship’s comforting hum.
And because he’s been waiting for answers for far too long.
-end-
Now cracks a noble heart. Good night sweet prince:
And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest!
Why does the drum come hither?

I've got the PTSD stuff that
_medley_ offered a while ago, and some advice, but if you have anything else to suggest about how Jack's likely to react to burning to death, the plea for help is here -
