Anywhere but Here: the continent of Africa, Post #2

Jan 05, 2017 20:11

I am in a terrible funk (not to be confused with listening to 'terrific funk'), so one of my amusements has been thinking about Anywhere But Heres. However, the places I *really* love and mentally revisit are limited, so even in my fantasy life I'm thinking about trying new things ( Read more... )

I'd like to see the Sphinx/pyramids (Amelia Peabody!), but first choice- Zambia. It's probably such a touristy thing but I want to see Victoria Falls. And the Luangwa National Park.

(I've never been to a desert.)

The Amelia Peabody Tour would be awesome, wouldn't it? :)

And yay for thinking of Victoria Falls! That was on my shortlist.

Hugs hugs!

Egypt. Cairo. See the pyramids, visit museums, take a boat on the Nile. Since you asked.

How cool that would be! You'd probably get some great ideas for art projects, too. :)

Hugs!

I spent a month in Cameroon, and I'd love to go back, especially to some of the little villages near Bamenda, and to the sweet French coastal city of Douala. Life can be hard there, but there is such kindness in the people and some of the food is so wonderful.

Oh, interesting! When I was thinking about this question I pulled up a map of the continent and thought about some of the smaller countries rather than the big ones...

Cheers, and happy Friday!

I joining you in wanting to visit Morocco. It just looks so exotic that it really appeals. I'd also like to go to Egypt. My dad was there in the army in the late 1940s and saw the Great Pyramid and the treasures of Tutankhamun, but unromantically his main memories seemed to be of the smell, which he didn't like; the heat, which oddly enough he didn't mind; and the dire consequences of drinking too much port in the officers' mess! As I'm unlikely to drink too much port in the officers' mess I still want to go.

Heee, yes, stay away from drinking too much port in the officers' mess! That's pretty much a good rule to follow even outside of Egypt. :)

And hurrah, let's plan our Morocco trip (even if it's just a mental one)!

Cheers and hugs.

Maybe it's because we're in the midst of winter, but I'm torn between two destinations that are hot and sunny: Egypt (mummies! pyramids!) and Mali (magnificent earthen architecture!). Morocco has tremendous appeal, too.

Uplifting thought of the day: Not long until the next episode of Sherlock!

Egypt is very popular! But Mali sounds cool too. :)

Two more sleeps until new Sherlock! I am half terror, half hope.

Cheers and hugs to you!
