so that our ties may not be lost

I have an idea.

I think it it workable. I think it is good.

But it all depends on how many of you think it is good and workable as well. Consider the following facts:
  • Each of us gets at most one vacation a year.
  • We have many friends.
  • Camping is good for children and families.

I propose that every 4 years or so, we choose a place like the Grand Canyon or ( Read more... )

This may sound silly coming from someone who has worked at Italian camp for eight summers in a row, but I really hate sleeping in tents. In fact, I pretty much can't sleep in a tent. So, as long as there's a cabin option, no matter how rustic, sure! It sounds like fun.

Jeff and Sara are no longer in Idaho. But they can still probably make suggestions for places to see and stay.

I agree with you concerning small children and camping. I was just at the Grand Canyon and didnt see many children under 10. And that was just at the rim, so no hiking or camping. Trying to hike with a baby in the Grand Canyon would not be my idea of a fun time (it is like a 10 mile hike to the bottom). Plus a toddler gets away for a second and there isnt much, if anything, to keep you from falling off the rim. In addition, squirrels are everywhere and would probably bite a small child.
On top of that, a child wont remember something grand like the Grand Canyon or Yellowstone. Save those type of trips with kids for when they are older and can remember on their own and not from photos.

My parents took me to the Grand Canyon when I was little. They tied Dad's belt to my waist. One woman onlooker said, "That's horrible! They have that child on a leash!" Her husband said that she hadn't seen what I had been doing, and he'd put a leash on me, too.

Did I ever mention I was born without a fear of heights?
