1. no.. there's always been a lot here. [downtown t dot is SO advertise-y] 2. I don;t like it -- it's student space and it should not be bought and sold. 3a. I don't mind seeing ads for events, especially ones run through campus groups, but school is for learning and community, not for consumption. I don't like being handed little flyers for cellphone ringtones and face cream when I'm on my way to class. it's unethical to use schools as captive audiences for advertising, because schools are for learning. b. ummm see above. 4. yes -- form a lobby group. taking action is always possible, even if you don;t get actual results, you probably managed to raise awareness.
1. Not really, i think the main problem is old adds have a tendancy to not be taken down
2. For one thing, it hink itd be more appropriate to have adds for things that you can actually get at the school, for instance, what does an add for hair dye have to do with the loyola campus? It bugs me a little. They should at least be advertising products we can get on campus (like maybe computer stuff, like iPods)
3a) Yes, especially in high school. b) because they are bombarding students with pressure to buy products, when students are often some of the poorest people!
4. I think, like I mentioned above, that at least the adds should be of things you can get at the school.
1. Yes, especially at Atwater Metro near Dawson college. It was recently repainted into an ipod ad. It feels like its getting worse, metros have become ads, the mezz was devoted to X-box or playstation or whatver.
2. I understand it become a bit of a neccessary evil due to a lack of funding but those stupid ATM starving student pizza ads are fucked. If the school was smart, they would get certain clothing companies to pay them an exclusive deal and then create a dresscode. Only clothes from companies that pay would be allowed.
3. Yes b. A) a lot of the ads are not in students interests (ie marketing credit cards to already indebted students) and b)when you're trying to study or relax on campus it gets a bit overwhelming.
4. It's possible, i mean, starbucks is no more. But outside of the symbolic level, how much of a difference would it make?
