Time to start thinking practical

Jul 16, 2008 10:40

This is probably the worst time (financially) to start thinking about a new car, but I at least need to start some research. S~ and I really love the sporty muscle car types of cars, and we have 1 Mustang and 1 Camaro...which isn't too practical if you want to seat more than 2 people. When my parents came out to visit, we had to rent a car just so ( Read more... )

*giggle* To be honest, this isn't something I had even considered, so thanks for the suggestion! *grins* I think I will have to test drive one to see what it feels like. Everyone and their brother have Prius cars or BMWs out here! LOL

Really, I LOVE mine. Seriously. And if you can't find one in CA? Buy one here and drive it back (or you know...just stay.......), because we have a TON in Indiana.

I currently own a Toyota Camry, and I LOVE it. It is the best car I've ever owned. GREAT gas mileage, NO problems in the 5 years I've owned it (it's 7 years old - I bought it used), it fits everything I've ever needed it to fit. I will probably own Toyotas exclusively from here on out.

Since it looks like your price range is higher than a Camry, I'd recommend a Lexus - they are the "fancy" toyotas, and I've driven a few (I used to babysit for REALLY rich people). They are super quiet and have a very smooth ride, plus all the bells & whistles.

When I was shopping for a new car, I learned that while Honda & Toyota (or Acura/Lexus) are very comparable, Hondas are built more for performance and Toyotas are built more for comfort. Just something to think about.

Not sure if this will help you at all, since everything I've mentioned is nothing on your list, but it's worth a shot!

I'll take any suggestion, so thanks for your feedback dear! ;-) It seems like many of the Indians out here in the Bay Area drive Toyotas or Hondas so they must be pretty reliable! *giggle* I think it's just going to come down to test driving a few to see which ones I like best.

I have to chime in and say that my client who is a car freak - has a Prius that he LOVES. No one was more surprised that I.........but it is the gas mileage he was after.

My Highlander is now five years old - and aside from oil changes and a new wiper blade - THAT IS ALL I HAVE HAD TO DO!!

This is the second Toyota that I have owned - the first was a Celica that we sold after 13 years of NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER!!

Toyota might be boring - but I don't see gas prices coming down any time soon -

It is fun shopping around though. Don't let the salesmen stick you in those little rooms. I bolted first time that happened and I thought they were going to lock me in.............I left the car lot!

Wow, the Prius might be winning here! LOL It's interesting to see that so many people like these cars. I really will have to give in and give the "cheese wedge" a test drive! LOL Yeah, the gas prices are crazy and it would be nice not to have to pay $60 everytime at the pump. Ugh!

I too have to advocate for Toyota/Lexus. I will never own another type of car - I have a 1992 Camry and it's a great car, even though it's 16 years old! I know that when this one needs to be replaced, I will for sure choose another Toyota or, if I'm rich, a Lexus ;)

Woot! Another vote for Toyota! I'm sensing a theme here. *snicker*

I owned an '89 Nissan Sentra and the car was good for gas mileage and it really hung in there (not suggesting you get a Nissan that old, lol).
Currently drive a Toyota Yaris and I adore it! So cute, excellent gas mileage, and had bigger balls than I anticipated.
As far as sedans, Nissans and Toyotas are pretty solid cars. Not so sure on the Lexus, seeing I don't know very many people who drive them, but I do know people who drive Toyotas and they are quite pleased with them.

I think I'll have to give the Toyatas a try since they seem to be pretty solid and reliable. Test driving is fun, so S~ and I will probably be starting to do that over the next few months. Thanks for the feedback dear!
