I just finished the documentary about the fans of Firefly (check out http://www.donetheimpossible.com/index.php ). It was interesting. I'm not sure I'm as dedicated as some of those fans, but it certainly made me want to see the series and movie again. It got my roommate ( Read more... )

I could've gone to see that doc at Comic Con, but I skipped it. I'm sure the film is heartwarming and all, but it's not like the story is fresh or new or something I don't know about. Scifi fans do grassroots campaigns constantly, and Joss Whedon's built-in fanbase was already huge. The idea that a failed tv series with a hardcore fanbase managed to fool a major studio into thinking they could have a mainstream franchise on their hands is somewhat interesting. But this is the same studio that happily allowed Stephen Sommers to plunder its past on the idea that the ridiculous Van Helsing would be a new franchise for them, as well. :p

I wanna see... I too need to go through the Firefly series and movie again. Wow, I think it's been 8 months since I last watched my Serenity DVD.

Where are you going after your last month? Hawaii?

Actually I still don't know. :( When I got here, the Hawaii orders were taken away and I'm still waiting for new orders. Sigh.

I'll probably take a few weeks of leave between here and my next duty station though. What are you guys up to during the middle of September (around the 15th)?

We should be here around the 15th... We're going to LA for the weekend of the 5th, but other than that we have no traveling plans.

Sigh. Forget about what I said before. I just found out I'm only getting 10 days of leave, and since I'm driving to NC, I won't make it out to CA this time. I'm hoping to make it out there by Christmas (assuming I'm not deployed by then).
