After only another three weeks of wrestling with bureaucracy (this time on the part of IC registry), I've finally received my OHMS containing a formal job offer. Now it's only another month before I can actually start ( Read more... )

So what exactly are you going to be doing? Well maybe not exactly if it's that hush-hush :)

I'm going to be a Graduate Trainee Engineer, and I don't know exactly what my speciality will be yet. I think Aerospace currently has no vacancies, but Land Systems, Weapon Systems or anything similar would be great.

I'll spend my 2 year training period being assigned to various project teams every 3 or 6 months. I'll be based from Bristol, but can also be stationed 'out' for a rotation - the graduate at the interview told us that people have, in the past, worked at Salisbury Plains, in Germany, on the Utah Salt Flats doing missile testing, and in Australia. So, I don't know yet exactly, but there's a fair chance it should be fun.

DESG (Defence Engineering & Science Group) - part of the MoD, working at Filton Abbey Wood, just north of Bristol.

I'll mainly be doing Engineering design work, and liaison work with the forces, as I understand it.

Oooohh, now you can finally send that letter to the Aero department in which they foolishly asked what you really thought of them!

Didn't you get an OHMS envelope for your student loan letters?

SAAS uses OHMS envelopes.

I used to get OHMS quite often when I was a cadet, too - I know they're not *that* rare, but they're still fun.

Ah, but even were that the case, I wouldn't be able to tell you.

Well, I would, but then I'd have to kill you.

Congrats on finally getting the last piece of paperwork! It sound like it's been quite the epic journey to get here though :). And I think now is entirely the correct time to tell Aero *exactly* what you think of them.
