On April 26, 2004, Hubert Selby Jr., author of Last Exit to Brooklyn, The Room, Requiem for a Dream, The Demon, Song of the Silent Snow, The Willow Tree, and Waiting Period, died of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, which was a result of the Tuberculosis he had most of his life.

He was a high school dropout and a merchant marine afterward. ( Read more... )
