My iCal is already filling up with things to do. Papers, tests, pages to be read, thoughts to be thought, conversations to have, struggling with God and man and myself. But you are right. Every sweetest earthly thing has an aftertaste of death, which in some ways makes them sweeter. One need not bother to enjoy a thing to which one is guaranteed eternal access. We must never be so foolish as to assume that the beautiful thing will last forever (conversely, thanks be to God, the same is true of the painful thing.) Ecclesiastes is not a book I think wise to dwell upon for too long, but he had some things to say about time...

If only we were granted the grace to love the beautiful and good things for the time which they are given to us and in the pain of losing them, long rightly to be in the presence of the One from whom all good things emanate.
