gift giving.

I'm going to a party tonight!!  Yay, I haven't been to a party in ages.  Course that is probably because I am seriously anti-social!  This party is a baby shower.

Have I mentioned before, I am not a good gift giver.  So for all of the other people in your life who are not good gift givers, perhaps I will try to define, explain, etc. the process ( Read more... )

I would say no to the cameras only because

1) so many people are digital these days already and the older sibs will probably know how to work a digital camera already

2) as a new mom getting film developed with be the last thing on her mind, and with the addition of Baby #5 they are liable to got lost in the shuffle of everything.

And seriously, diapers are *always* appreciated, especially in the larger sizes (2 and up). Yeah, it's boring, but man alive there is nothing that sucks more than realizing you are down to your last diaper and you can't get anymore until the next day.

On the other hand, I love giving books at baby showers, so YAY on that front. My go-to author is anything by Sandra Boynton. Don't beat yourself up. I think you did good!

The cameras turned out to be something of interest, because her girls had recently found one of her older film cameras. They didn't know what camera film was and how it worked. They only know digital cameras. So my friend was excited to have her kids work the cameras. But yeah, the diapers would have been more practical.

I think these are good gifts. My Aunt also always gives Mother Goose nursery rhymes to babies born in the family (though not a board book), and I don't believe a book can ever be a wrong gift (unless, it's say, Divorce for Dummies at a wedding shower).

And the camera's are a great idea too. I think I actually did pretty well with ConTessa on pictures, but Devilla, who is only two years behind her big brother as opposed to the 4 years between her and ConTessa, may have some gaps. I had my hands full back then. With older siblngs being older, you can actually have time to appreciate the moment ( ... )

I used to give just board books, but maybe I should mix it up with board books and wipes. Someone gave wipes last night, and that was a good gift.

She liked the cameras because she had been talking to her daughters recently about how cameras used to use film, so she was excited for her girls to play with these. But they also talked about how many throw away pics kids do. So hopefully it will work out.

I think the idea of having the older kids take pictures of the baby is great! Maybe you could volunteer to pick up the cameras and get the film developed, since that way you know for sure it'll get done.

That's a good idea! Maybe I could use Julie's Cri-cut too and make them some baby scrapbook accessories and offer to babysit when they can make them. I'm no.t really a scrapbooker, but maybe the girls would enjoy it.

One of the coolest gifts was a package of blank white bibs and fabric markers. Then the girls can create the bibs themselves.
