I have a short (and probably daft) question about the use of the Swedish words for "in". Is there a rule when to use "på" and when to use "i"?
For example, one says:

På ett apotek kan man köpa medicin.
På en bank kan man ta ut pengar.
I en matbutik kan man handla mat.
I en kiosk kan man köpa en tidning.

Now I`ve got another question: why do we say "knocking ON the door", but "there was a knock AT the door". What`s the difference? (I know, I`m a bother, but answer it, please!)
