“The girlshapedlovedrug messes with my mind…” (well, actually more like the messedupsleepschedule)

Before getting into things, a quick musical note.  Though I’m on hiatus from the music blogging gig, I would like to draw your attention to the song Girlshapedlovedrug off the new album by Gomez, How We Operate.  On the whole, I find Gomez to be sort of hit and miss, but this song is absolutely irresistible (here’s a link).

Oh, and the Blues ( Read more... )

I don't care what you've heard (if anything) of them, and (i'm making a huge ass assumption) that you wouldn't usually listen to them, but for sake of blogging on the topic of music, take a listen to The Mars Volta's new album.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3S30VY7R <-- not really a legal version, but hmmm, what is legal..... That is a link to a non-MPAA friendly music aquisition.

I'd like to know your opinion of the album. Mine shall come as a comment to your post. (yes i'm holding my own opinion hostage)

hm. your link appears to be busted, sir.

i have heard some mars volta, and while i can appreciate the rich prog-rockish landscapes, you will also recall that I'm just a *touch* ADD, so they tend to lose me after a bit ;)

hokay, so.... three things:

-this month's Sedaritives were guest written by Sarah Vowell, which is awesome, as is probably my personal equivalent to Dave Eggers (though as an aside, I have been meaning to read "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius" for some time now) in terms of a literary crush

-The print version of McSweeny's freaks me out a bit in terms of its highbrowness (cant they just print it between two covers like every other printed work in existience?), but I love the online version, most notably John Moe's Pop Song Correspondences, which went over really well at music MADhouse in the spring.

-This whole insomnia thing is fun... do you happen to know if they have any last minute NR slots to fill in the fall? I kinda managed to leave myself without a source of income come August :\

Yes, I saw that she'd written it this month. I read part of it. Disappointingly, my attention span is ridiculously short these days, so I stopped reading once I had to turn the page. I've read the beginning to one of Sarah Vowell's books (Partly Cloudy Patriot, possibly--it was about the bed and breakfast and the musical about presidential as--wait. Just remembered. Assasination Vacation.) and definitley up my alley. Just haven't gotten around to buying it or finding it in a library. Anyway, woot woot lit crushes that are on authors and not fictional characters (it happens ( ... )
