If I can help you in any way I will. I absolutely agree that it is a horrible loss to the public school program and I think the lack of respect for such a cumluation of all forms of the arts which SO many students are involved in is absolutely sickening.
are you serious? I'm not in district 81; shoot, I'm not even at a public school. We have to raise our own funds for musicals, and the choir, orchestra and band teachers volunteer classtime to work on musicals; that's part of the reason we only get to do a musical every other year. And I don't know if public school teachers would be willing to do that, but I find the concept of ridding schools of musical theatre to be shocking and awful. If you're doing a petition or something, I'd be more than willing to sign. I'd write a letter or anything; let me know if I can help. I know my input doesn't realli count cuz I go to Prep, but still. I'll try.
I also agree full heartedly. They tried to cut the funds for district 81 marching bands last year. Actually, they already had. But our drum major did what you are doing and got it back. The person he made it happen with was the superintendent (I can't remember his name). He started by writing letters, but he even set up a meeting with the guy to talk to him about it. They had budget meetings that our band parent group would go to and they would have students and parents talk about how important the band was and stuff. If you want to change it, you have to go to the people that control the budget and have the power to change it
