To Jerry Butler, wherever you are

I guess I should make one thing clear right off the bat. I mean the porn star, not the singer. I don't know much about the singer. The porn star, though, is always going to be someone kind of special for me. No, not like that, get that one out of your heads right now. I guess he's kind of what you'd call mine and Golumette's mentor and role model, ( Read more... )

You make some very good points. Especially the one about how none of what he does is dirty or sleazy, just that his industry's gotten that rap over the years. And face it, it's been around forever. Porn movies have been around as long as legit ones have, and before that, there was plenty of stuff in print on the black market. Granted, it predated offset litho, and they couldn't get away with doing most of it gravure, so it was mostly run letterpress, and the quality was comparable to most old pics printed by letterpress. Amazingly good for the time, but pretty laughable by today's standards ( ... )

I'm going to remind you that it's not so bad when you catch your son partaking of it with friends...

Let's see if I can guess the reason why he didn't go into "legit" movies... albobaggins July 28 2009, 13:38:50 UTC
I got a funny feeling he probably tried that first, but ended up getting too much pressure to sleep with gay guys in charge. Wow, would that be a shock, in one of the only industries where gays are in any actual power to ram their agenda down everybody else's throats. And I hear that the pressure's astronomical to do the whole "casting couch" crap if you want to break into the business, whether you're male, female, or freaking livestock. I heard they even made Lassie do some disgusting things to Timmy's manager ( ... )

I think Frodo's hit it right on the money, it's his one son on another of "those" kicks. Not completely sure what to do about that boy...

Wow, looks like Albo's in another one of his moods. Don't tell me, let me guess... littlefrodo July 28 2009, 13:59:43 UTC
Offhand I'd say our one son must be back on his "bicurious" kick again, which has a way of sending poor Albo into these little rages. Not that I blame him for being upset, since that's not an easy thing for him to handle coming from his son, naturally. And I think the biggest problem is that the kid's always been a little too sensitive for his own good, and is given to bouts of depression because he takes too many things about himself much too seriously. And Albo sees this as his failure as a father, but I honestly don't think it is. Nor do I really think it's mine. Some kids are just plain more sensitive and high strung than others, and they have a tendency to cry and get upset much more easily than other kids. My one niece is like that, too, although she hasn't been led to believe she has lesbian tendencies because of it. Had she been a boy, though, I'm pretty sure it would be another story. No, not that he'd have lesbian tendencies, but gay or bi tendencies, for sure ( ... )

Come on, Albo, that's not fair... gandolfgryscl July 28 2009, 15:19:29 UTC
The movie industry is not the only one where the gays have any real power. They've pretty well got a stranglehold over commercial art, too, which was the real reason why I got out of it and came back here, if you want to know the truth. Yeah, I said it was too demanding, but that was the real reason. The thought of ever doing certain things to another guy just makes me want to puke. And I'm a pretty live and let live kind of guy, but holy crap, leave me out of it. Not my thing, not interested, if I open my mind that far my brains will fall out, you know? Thanks, Meg, that's one of my favorites, and it really fits in this case ( ... )

Gandolf, you've definitely got my sympathies. I know exactly what you'd have been up against. The same thing I was out on the "meat market floor" out back years ago. And while Aragone was usually good about at least trying to squelch as much as he could of that, although Gimli was the one who really nipped most of it in the bud for me, Aragone had a totally ridiculous blind spot for Dave that ended up causing me serious problems, which he eventually felt bad about, of course, but by the time he was ready to wake up and smell the press chemicals, it was way out of hand, and I was catching major crap from both Dave and the Twilight Zone. But had Aragone turned out to have any kind of designs on me, I'd have definitely walked a lot earlier than I did, too. Face it, that one's a situation you can't possibly win, as was, it sounds like, the whole situation for you. Because you're absolutely right about guys getting laughed off the face of the earth for things that are taken to be serious problems for gals.

I always suspected, from a lot of little things you said, that that was more along the lines of the real reason, but I didn't want to say anything. Let's just say that from what I've seen of the industry (remember, you're not the only one I know who's gone into it then gotten out after awhile), I'm not at all surprised ( ... )

Funny, though, when we were younger and still living at home, it wasn't gays that got him fuming like that, it was mostly girls, go and figure. I think they had him so frustrated back then, he couldn't even think straight. Me, I avoided them, LOL, and focused my frustrations on sports ( ... )

You're right, I've been a big fan of his for years. And a lot of that is because he's got a fair amount of actual acting talent, which is rare for the industry. And it adds a whole lot of depth and dimension to his characters, which make them a lot more entertaining for us to watch. I know you guys really don't need it, nor do you need appealing looks or technique from the guys onscreen, any more than you need plot, dialogue or any semblance of a point in most "guy movies" in general. You guys will generally go nuts and rave about movies that are two solid hours of car chases, gun battles and things being blown up, without caring whether it makes one iota of sense or not. And most of you have the same tastes in porn. An hour or two of bodies pointlessly slamming into each other is entertainment enough, plot and dialogue and such are just something you tolerate to hold all that action together like glue ( ... )

Yes, ma'am, his mother. I don't know whether you ever actually knew her or his dad, not many kids did, because he avoided ever bringing any friends home, because they both seriously put the funk in dysfunctional, even by Craptown standards. They were both alcoholics with serious mental problems, and his grandmother was the only sane force in his life. He told me after we'd met again as adults that she was the only real reason he ever lived past the age of five, and if not for her, he'd have died of abuse and/or neglect long before that ( ... )
