Open Spaces? brcguy February 5 2006, 20:15:21 UTC
Try Prospect Park in Brooklyn. Less people than Central Park, and way prettier in places too. You can get there on the 2,3,4,5,B,D,Q, and F trains(should be able to find your way with any subway map). I like to start on the West side from Prospect Park West(road, street, whatever - F Train) Never gonna be the wide open space you get in Cowpasture, TX, but it may really help that need anyway...

Good Luck.

thanks! i actually have been staying just south of the park there (in Kensington), but never made it into the park, just walked alongside it. it didn't look quite "open" enough for me, so i was feeling more like enjoying the waterfront. of course, now it's finally getting colder and windy, so that may not be the best idea (:0

Definitely don't forget the promenade in brooklyn heights, plenty of sky for ya. Then there's all the beaches in south brooklyn(Brighton, Manhattan, Coney) all subway accessible. I always liked taking the Staten Island ferry roundtrip near sunset for the awesome skyline/statue of liberty/open sky thing. Also, you can eat hotdogs and drink beer on the ferry! Don't let the lack of open space get you down, nyc has enough of it and way more than enough of everything else, y'know?

I have a lead on a place for $400 a month in Brooklyn. Small room, but a pretty good price, and it'd be with one good old friend of mine from Prague and a friend of hers. Write me an email and I'll forward you the info on it that she sent me. It's in Prospect Heights, so I guess it's close to Prospect Park. Yeah, write me....

I have a lot of problems with needing those wide open spaces too. Nothing here is wide enough. I think taking the train though New Jersey was the closest I got to feeling like I was in Texas. Actually, there are parts of NJ that kind of seem like Texas suburbs, but it's still Jersey, not quite the same.
I really wish I could have gone out with you guys that night. Of course, I was at work. All I got out of it was Jason and Paul's hangovers the next day.
