I'm with you on this one. I flew back to Fort Lauderdale last night on Southwest, and it was a disaster--for the first time (and, mind you, I fly at least once a month), I had to struggle to buckle the seatbelt. I ended up in a window seat next to a very nice Pakistani gentleman who did what he could to make me comfortable, but, in the end, I had to rotate my body sideways to make sure he had enough room--by the time we landed, my back and legs were in so much pain that I could barely walk. At this point, it's either fly first class or buy two seats if I stay the same size.

Southwest (and most other airlines, I believe) will refund the cost of the second seat if the plane isn't full.
