A cripplingly cold few days in this stinkburg known as cleveland just passed. I am very busy now writing for three papers and classes-going and works-going and have little free time.

Now let us discuss these points:

A) Suppose sometime next year some sort of exposure (from a major label or otherwise) of Neutral Milk Hotel's psych folk record In ( Read more... )

For all the popularity of Dave Matthews, I haven't seen or heard many bands that were obviously influenced by him or claim to have been. Maybe some of the frat boy jam bands (as opposed to hippie jam bands) were, but I've never heard any of them and don't know that I would care to.

I don't understand the point of making a Transformers movie today.

the point of such a movie is to ride the nostalgia wave to a fat bank account.

I think many bands have been influenced by Dave Matthews, as it isn't really too hard. Find an easy trick to do, do it poorly, repeat.

A) i can see them embracing it as that album that "really expresses how they feel," & "man, it's so out there." the resultant swell will only spur a new tour & an opening slot for whatever those guys are listening to these days. nmh will then go on to record a new album, & the success of that will determine the true course of the future.

B) i hope my theater gets it, so i can watch it for free.

a) The first part of what you said was my initial thought, but I wouldn't say Mangum would be willing to come out of his cave for it, which I hope would be true.

b) I wonder how they will pull it off. It looks almost Independence Day in mood.

i'm really just talking out of my ass on part A) glazomaniac February 7 2007, 16:22:15 UTC
a) if he doesn't, then they will lose steam quickly & fizzle, then fade. possibly some record exec will say "we need more people like this" & they will hunt down some second rate, third rate, & sixth rate imitators, market them to the target market & your initial prediction will come true.

b) i've seen little more than the teaser, which pretty much gave me shadows. it does seem very "pending alien invasion" though. i'm not sure how i feel about it, & will have to see more to decide.

Aeroplane equals frozen Cleveland vogdoid February 7 2007, 16:15:06 UTC
I first heard that album through a nutty college type w/woman issues who was dating the friend of my then girlfriend, who was from Cleveland, giving this post has a weird symmetry.

In the tiny minority of LJers who hated the Transformers: the Movie. 9 yrs. old when I saw it in the theater, right in the target demographic. At the end when everyone was cheering I said to Tommy "that sucked". Michael Bay holds no dominion o'er my childhood.

now I got started watching trailers. This promises to be a most ridiculous summer.

"the only lead we have now is this sound"--is NOT followed by the sound!

Why is Silver Surfer not getting his own movie? Why no Wolverine movie yet. Why can't I give up on my belief that they will one day make truly satisfying comix movies.

"Live Free or Die Hard" - HOLY SHIT INCREDIBLE

Good.

Someone spoofed JM on the E6 boards and the community thought it was legit, that there would be some new tunes. Oh, the heartbreak.

How'd you like that EP?
