We used to do Pride recs quite a few years ago, but decided to resurrect it. We will be reviewing Rupert and Dan’s respective movies every couple of days. Hope you enjoy!

THUNDERPANTS (2002)

Thunderpants is about a boy who is born with a terrible flatulence problem. His only friend is a boy genius, played by Rupert, who can’t smell anything, therefore, doesn’t have a problem with Patrick. Rupert’s character, Alan, tries his hardest to help Patrick. Alan is such a genius that he is sent to work with the equivalent to NASA and help three stranded astronauts in space. Luckily, Patrick’s problem is everyone’s solution. Far-fetched you say? Never.

Lots of great actors, such as, Stephen Fry, Simon Callow, Paul Giamatti, and Ned Beatty! Josh Herdman who plays Gregory Goyle in the Harry Potter series plays a similar character who is a bully with two toadies.

This was filmed after Sorcerer’s Stone, so Rupert was still a wee lad. His accent and acting are okay in this. He gets much more comfortable as he gains experience in the Harry Potter films and in life. I think he tried to make himself different to get away from the Ron role, but it’s almost too much of a stretch, but it’s a cute role.

It is 87 minutes and is PG for crude humor, language, some violence and bullying.

Thunderpants is a silly kids movie and if you go into knowing that, it is watchable. I’m pretty sure it was made for the 10 year old set, but if you want to see Rupert in his first non-HP role, this is it!
