Why do people hoard? Why do they see such an attraction in maintaining PILES of GARBAGE throughout the house? How can someone be so meticulous about sweeping birdseed off the back porch and not care that the dining room table has been unusable for close to a decade now? Even when things go well, there's nothing there. The day went well because no one yelled, no one criticised, no one condemned me for anything. The day was good because there was nothing in it. It was empty, like my life.

Today, I was met with TWO write-ups upon arriving at work. I guess that shows what a great worker and employee I am to have managed to garner two written notices of errant behaviour in one day and reminded that both *could* be cause for immediate dismissal. Yesterday, I received a copy of a short story. It is not posted on LJ and as far as I know, it never will be. What struck me most about this short story, little more than a drabble, was the intensity of the action, the near complete IC-ness of the characterisations and the ability of the author to craft a story that ended on a note of real honest ( Read more... )
